2018 brings some big changes to the top SUVs. The Jeep Grand Cherokee brings in an all-new supercharged engine to provide incredible power and driving capability. On top of this, the Grand Cherokee is also adding a few new standard features and upgrading a lot of its technical equipment. The Ford Escape adds a trim for 2018 and changes up its safety features to switch up which trim gets what. The Escape has also made it a little more difficult to access its turbocharged engine, as it is now only available to the top trim.

The Grand Cherokee has a total of five available engines. The top engine is capable of outputting a very impressive 707 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. These five engines are matched to a smooth eight-speed automatic transmission. These engines are available in rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. They are also capable of towing a maximum of 7,400 pounds!

2018 Ford Escape Power & Handling

The Escape has the choice between three engines. The top engine is tied to a specific trim level and has an output of 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. These engines are all matched to a six-speed automatic transmission. Dependent on the engine, there is also a choice between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The maximum towing amount is set to 3,500 pounds.

Seven trim levels are available to the Grand Cherokee. The base comes standard with quite few luxury items like heated mirrors, keyless ignition and entry, and even dual-zone automatic climate control. Each trim following builds off the previous with more luxury and further off-roading functionality. There are also additional packages as well to include upper-level features on lower levels, to add safety, and to overall make customizations of luxury and off-roading even easier than ever before.

A total of four trims are available to choose from for the Escape. The base trim comes with basic features like air-conditioning, cruise control, and a USB port. For more fun features, you will want to upgrade to upper-level trims. Packages for the Escape are more to add functionality and less about customizability. Even the maximum towing rate of 3,500 pounds needs a package added to be capable of carrying that weight. Additionally, many safety features are only available to upper-trims through packages.
