2022 Jeep Gladiator vs Ford Ranger

If you are looking for a powerful pickup that can also go off-road, look no further than the Jeep Gladiator or the Ford Ranger. Not only do both of these trucks come with powerful engine options, but they also have some of teh best looking and technologically advanced interiors on the market. While our experts think that either one of these pickups would make a terrific addition to your garage or driveway, there is one that has an advantage over the other. To find out which one you should be driving home, check out our comparison down below!

2022 Gladiator Power Options

You get a couple of engine options for the 2022 Jeep Gladiator, with one being gasoline-powered and the other being diesel-powered. The gasoline-powered engine is a 3.6-liter V6 that kicks out a spectacular 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. You can pair this engine with either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the diesel-powered engine option is a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that will get you 260 horsepower and an outstanding 442 lb-ft of torque. The diesel engine pairs exclusively with the eight-speed automatic transmission. All trims of the Gladiator come with four-wheel-drive, and those looking to tow something will be suitably impressed as the Gladiator can tow 7,650 pounds with a payload capacity of 1,700 pounds.

2022 Ranger Power Options

Unfortunately, the Ford Ranger only has one engine option, and it's not a diesel. Under the hood is a 2.3-liter four-cylinder that pumps out 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque and pairs with an automatic transmission. Rear-wheel-drive is standard for the Ranger, but you can have the Ranger drive on all four wheels if you prefer. If you are looking to tow a lot of material with the Ranger, it does fine as you can haul about 7,500 pounds which is less than what the Gladiator offers.

2022 Gladiator Features

There are four trims available for the Gladiator, and each one provides you with a ton of luxury, tech, and performance items! The first trim is the Sport which comes with cruise control, a manually adjustable tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, an eight-speaker audio system, and a 5-inch central display with voice control capability. A removable door and top are also standard. You get more advanced features for the Overland trim as it has automatic headlights, power windows, heated power mirrors, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a 7-inch central display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Want to go off the road with your Gladiator? Then check out the amazing Rubicon trim, which has a 4.10 rear axle ratio, 33-inch all-terrain tires, fenders with increased clearance, FOX shock absorbers, locking front and rear differentials, and body-protecting rock rails and skid plates. Finally, there is the Mojave trim which is built for desert travel as it has a reinforced frame, FOX internal bypass shock absorbers, and a Desert Rated badge.

2022 Ranger Features

The Ranger has one less trim than the Gladiator, and so it will have fewer features. The base trim is the XL which comes standard with cruise control, a manually adjustable tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, an eight-speaker audio system, and a 5-inch central display with voice control capability. Several packages are available for the Ranger, including the 101A, which has power mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control, and Ford's Sync 3 system. The second trim is the XLT which gets a few more interesting features such as alloy wheels, keyless entry, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There are also a few more option packages for the XLT which get a leather-wrapped steering wheel, remote ignition, power-folding mirrors, front parking sensors, navigation, and adaptive cruise control. The top-level trim is the Lariat which rounds things out with LED headlights and leather upholstery.
