2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee VS Ford Edge

Here at Pearson, we know how much time and effort goes into choosing a new car. A full-size SUV does so much more than simply carry you from Point A to Point B. These vehicles are incredibly popular due to their spaciousness, durability, and strength. However, that popularity means there are a lot of options to sort through, which can quickly become confusing, stressful, and tiresome. We want to help take the guesswork out of selecting the right SUV to fit your lifestyle! That's why we've selected two strong options, the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the 2021 Ford Edge, to compare side-by-side and see which one has the most to offer. Keep reading below to see which SUV receives our recommendation!

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Power & Handling

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers four engine options across its 7 trim levels. These options are the standard 3.6-liter V6 at 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, the 5.7-liter V8 with 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque, a 6.4-liter V8 with 470 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque, and the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 standard on the Trackhawk trim, offering up a staggering 707 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque. As you can see, these options start out strong and only get more powerful as you move up the list! The Grand Cherokee has a 7,200-lb tow rating when properly equipped, and the Trailhawk trim bears the Jeep Trail Rated badge, meaning it's been rigorously tested for water-fording, maneuverability, traction, articulation, and ground clearance on off-road terrain.

2021 Ford Edge Power & Handling

The 2021 Ford Edge comes with two engine options, the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 with 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, and the 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged V6 with 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. Both are paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission which can sometimes feel a bit sluggish. Front-wheel drive is standard across the board with available all-wheel drive, however we do miss having a 4-wheel drive option, especially with only two powertrains to choose from. The Ford Edge has a tow rating of up to 3,500 pounds, but unfortunately it offers little else in terms of athleticism. The Ford Edge performs well on paved roads, and the ST trim adds a bit of a sportier feel.

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Features & Design

The Jeep Grand Cherokee offers iconic Jeep styling in its upright body design and seven-slot grille. The interior features the Uconnect infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, premium materials like Nappa leather and real wood, heated seats for the front and rear, and an available 19-speaker audio system. Additional features include keyless entry with remote start, a power liftgate, and Jeep's signature 4X4 systems to enhance traction and off-road performance.

2021 Ford Edge Features & Design

The Ford Edge has a rounded exterior with a streamlined look. The visibility is impeded a bit by its thick frames, creating large blind spots. Luckily, blind-spot monitoring is one of its standard features, because drivers could definitely run into trouble without it. The Ford Edge's interior is fairly straightforward, and features include the Sync 3 infotainment system, as well as Ford's Co-Pilot 360 safety package. Additional features of the 2021 Ford Edge include LED headlights, keyless ignition, a standard 6-speaker audio system (with an available upgrade to the 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen setup), and leather and imitation suede upholstery.

Conclusion:

After comparing these two SUVs side-by-side, we've concluded that the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee wins out over the Ford Edge. We like how many options it provides in terms of engine power, and the Ford Edge simply can't compete with the Grand Cherokee's off-roading capabilities. But don't just take our word for it!
