2018 Jeep Compass vs 2018 Chevrolet Equinox near Glen Allen, VA

The crossover SUV segment is filled with many options, all of which give you unique rides and looks. However, in order to better help you make the best choice, two crossover SUVs stand out from the rest of the pack. One of these options is the 2018 Jeep Compass, and the other is the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox. Both of these vehicles are loaded with features, and their exterior styling is plenty unique, creating a high-quality atmosphere inside and out. The Jeep Compass was completely redesigned in the previous model year, meaning that in 2018 this Jeep Compass has not needed to be changed! On the other side of things, the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox was completely redesigned for the 2018 model year. This includes making the Equinox smaller and reducing weight in order to create more efficiency. Both of these vehicles give you plenty of options, but which one of them is better? Continuing reading down below to see our analysis on which crossover SUV works best with your life.

2018 Jeep Compass Power & Handling

In order to power the Jeep Compass, you are going to need a capable engine that has the ability to be just as impressive on the road, as it can be off of it. The Compass features a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that offers 175 pound-feet of torque and 180 horsepower. That is a lot of power that can be pushed to the front wheels, or even possible all four wheels. As far as the transmission goes, the Sport trim and the 4WD Latitude trim come with a six-speed manual transmission, and the rest of the FWD models come with a six-speed automatic transmission. All 4WD models, save for the 4WD Latitude, come standard with a nine-speed automatic transmission. As if all of those are not reasons enough to love the Compass, then the 2,000 pounds of towing capability should give you even more reason to check this crossover SUV out.

2018 Chevrolet Equinox Power & Handling

There are three engine options that come with the Equinox. The first engine is a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-4 that produces 203 lb-ft of torque and 170 horsepower. The second engine is a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 that generates up to 260 pound-feet of torque and 252 horsepower. The third and final option is the turbocharged diesel 1.6-liter inline-4 that creates 137 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque. All of these engines come with either FWD or AWD. The different transmission options are a six-speed automatic transmission or a nine-speed automatic transmission.

2018 Jeep Compass Features & Design

There are four impressive trim levels that you can choose from with the 2018 Compass! The base trim, known as the Compass Sport, comes with many great standard features. Some of these features include air-conditioning, a 6-speaker sound system, 16-inch wheels, a USB port, Bluetooth connectivity, a 5-inch touchscreen display, and an amazing Uconnect system. The Compass Trailhawk, which is truly the model to get if you want the best off-roading experience, includes features like a unique front fascia that maximizes breakover and approach angles, red tow hooks, 17-inch wheels, a matte-black hood, underbody protection shields, a raised suspension, a Selec-Terrain system, and off-road oriented tires. The highest option, the Compass Limited, comes with features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a power driver seat, 18-inch wheels, leather upholstery, an 8.5-inch Uconnect touchscreen, heated front seats, an upgraded driver information display, and automatic dual-zone climate control.

2018 Chevrolet Equinox Features & Design

There are four trim level options for the 2018 Equinox. The base option comes with Bluetooth, automatic headlights, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a fuel-saving engine stop-start system, keyless entry and ignition, height-adjustable front seats, LED daytime running lights, and a rearview camera. Another trim option is the LT, adding an eight-way power driver seat, xenon headlights, satellite radio, a leather-wrapped shift knob, auxiliary rear-seat release levers, and rear privacy glass. The highest trim option is the Premier, which includes LED headlights and taillights, a hands-free liftgate, fog lights, ambient interior lighting, 18-inch wheels, driver-seat memory settings, auto-dimming mirrors, perforated leather upholstery, chrome exterior trim, and roof rails.

Conclusions

While both of these crossover SUVs have features that make them worthy of being a contender, the 2018 Jeep Compass gives you more options. The Compass gives you off-roading capabilities that cannot be matched by the Equinox, and that you have come to expect with Jeep vehicles. This simply means that while both vehicles are impressive when it comes to on-the-road driving, the Equinox cannot touch the off-roading capabilities of the 2018 Jeep Compass. So whether you want to simply commute to work every day, or if you want to take a weekend to go on an adventure, the Jeep Compass has the ability to support you no matter what.
